Born to parents of two Hungarian immigrant physicians at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Bretz was raised in Kettering, OH. After completing high school as the Valedictorian from Kettering Fairmont (the first male in 20 years), he went on to attend The Johns Hopkins University, graduating with Departmental Honors in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of California-Davis. During this time, Dr. Bretz took the initiative to be the first resident to study abroad (completing two months of study in South Africa). He then became Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Surgery at University of California San Francisco working at the trauma center at San Francisco General Hospital from 1999-2006. In addition, he was a physician with the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort for ten years during his time in California.
He was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF and taught an award winning course there entitled “Essential Procedures in Emergency Medicine” (one of the most highly sought after courses in the School of Medicine). He developed an acute interest in the non-surgical delivery of aesthetic and cosmetic techniques used to reverse and correct the signs of aging, which brought him to SkinSpirit. His innate skill, broad experience and incredible eye for aesthetic form make him uniquely qualified for this line of medicine.
Dr. Bretz and his wife Heidi enjoy alpine skiing, ski mountaineering, running, cycling, traveling and music.
