Let’s Talk About Ultherapy®
Many of our patients come to us with a bit of a dilemma: They’re looking for facial rejuvenation that goes further than what at-home treatments can achieve — but they’re not looking for surgical intervention. Ultherapy, popular in our San Francisco, Newport Beach, Austin, and Bellevue/Seattle clinics, finds that right balance. It tightens and lifts the skin, for a refreshed appearance that lasts.
What is Ultherapy?
The hint is in the name. Ultherapy — like an ultrasound sonogram — directs sound waves under the skin. (That’s where the similarities end, though.)
Ultherapy works by using ultrasound energy to gently heat the tissue under the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing process. As the body gets to work on the tissue affected by ultrasound energy, it produces new collagen to visibly lift and tighten loose skin. No incisions required.
Who is a good candidate for the treatment?
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved treatment for several areas:
- The neck
- The chin
- The décolletage (i.e., the skin revealed by a garment with a low neckline)
- The brow
The best candidates for Ultherapy have some degree of sagging or loose skin in one or more of these areas. We can combine treatment areas in a single session as needed, or spread them across multiple visits (this is one of many points we’ll discuss during your consultation).
What is a treatment session like?
Treatment begins by cleansing the skin and applying ultrasound gel. We then place the Ultherapy handheld applicator over the treatment area(s) and use ultrasound imaging to determine the exact placement of the ultrasound energy.
From there, we use the applicator to deliver that ultrasound energy to the optimal areas. You will feel tiny sensations as this happens; this is an indication that new collagen growth has been triggered.
When the treatment is over, you can go about the rest of your day as normal. There may be some redness, swelling, or tingling, but these are all typically quite mild reactions that resolve within a day or two.
How can I keep my results?
Your at-home skin care regimen comes into play here. Keeping your results also means paying close, careful attention to sun exposure: Always wear your sunscreen!
