What Makes Latisse Different From Other Eyelash Growth Products?

There’s more than a few eyelash enhancing products available – serums and treatments – all claiming to enhance, condition, moisturize and strengthen lashes. Some also proclaim to dramatically improve the appearance of natural lash length, thickness, density and fullness. Others contend to extend the life of lashes and minimize lash loss. But do any of these products have the ability to grow eyelashes?

Latisse is a growth treatment for hypotrichosis, a condition known as having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. This once-nightly treatment is applied topically to the base of the upper eyelashes, which results in real lash growth within 16 weeks of usage.

Latisse was originally created in 2001 by Allergan as a medicated eye drop to treat elevated intraocular pressure. Many patients using this medication also began to grow longer, fuller and darker lashes as a side effect. This led to a clinical study of the active ingredient, bimatoprost by Allergan. After the clinical trial, Latisse® was approved by the FDA in December 2008.

There are two distinguishing facts about Latisse that make it different from any other eyelash growth product on the market. First, it’s the only FDA-approved product clinically proven to grow lashes longer, fuller and darker. The active ingredient in Latisse, bimatoprost makes lash growth possible. Latisse is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways. It not only increases the length of this phase, but it also increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. No other product on the market has this active ingredient in it.

Second, Latisse is also the only lash growth product of its kind available by prescription. This ensures that the treatment is right for the user and that they’ll know how to use the product properly.
